Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine ASM 2025

The Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM) Annual Scientific Meeting 2025, held 10–13 June at the International Convention Centre Sydney, achieved record-breaking success. Coinciding with the city’s VIVID festival, the event drew unprecedented attendance and delivered the highest sponsorship revenue in the conference’s history.

Across four days, delegates experienced a rich program centred on the theme “Illuminating Dementia: from Care to Cure”, exploring the dementia journey from diagnostic strategies to emerging treatments. The event was distinguished by exceptional audience engagement, fully sold-out additional sessions, and innovative new features.

This landmark ASM not only set new records in attendance and sponsorship but also strengthened ANZSGM’s ongoing partnership with ASN Events, building momentum and shared vision as planning begins for the 2026 conference.

Program & Engagement

The four-day program featured plenary sessions, concurrent presentations, workshops, and supplementary offerings, including:

  • Keynote Addresses: Delivered by national and international experts, exploring diagnostic strategies, emerging treatments, and the dementia journey from care to cure.

  • Supplementary Sessions: Fourteen additional sessions covering diverse aspects of dementia care, research, and clinical practice.

  • Innovative Initiatives:

    • Haiku Challenge – delegates creatively reflecting on dementia care and research.

    • Curated Poster Tours – guided journeys through research posters, fostering deeper discussion and networking.

    • Weave Your Story – Bangawarra Art Yarns, a hands-on program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living with dementia, bringing cultural and creative expression into the ASM experience.

  • Audience Engagement: Delegates actively participated in every aspect of the program, with fully sold-out sessions and strong engagement across all offerings, marking one of the most interactive ANZSGM audiences to date.

Impact & Recognition

The 2025 ANZSGM Annual Scientific Meeting drew 892 delegates and received 216 submissions, reflecting strong engagement across the program. Delegates participated enthusiastically in plenary sessions, workshops, and interactive poster tours, fostering professional development, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.

Networking events, roundtables, and interactive activities provided opportunities for sharing best practices, building peer connections, and advancing research and clinical practice in dementia care, reinforcing the meeting’s role as a key forum for geriatric medicine in Australia and New Zealand.
